The clarity that a niche brings to you in targeting your audience and potential customers with your words, content, offerings, messaging and branding will allow you to more effectively communicate what sets you apart from others, while attracting those who are not necessarily “stuck” in that niche. So what’s the other side of the equation? Well, the sad truth is that there are a lot of people in your industry who offer something very similar to what you do. One of the first things I do when advising online entrepreneurs who want to grow their online business is to understand what makes them different. And that’s the fact that even though it may seem like there are a billion people offering what you do, the truth is there are billions of people in the world, and if you do break it down, it’s not unreasonable to expect that you will find enough of these people in your life to support your entrepreneurial dreams. The side that encourages you to know that this is not as impossible as your ideal people seem to realize. This creates the illusion that your ideal people will find entrepreneurs offering services or products like yours, when the truth is, from a consumer’s perspective, it isn’t. It’s important to have a unique selling proposition for everything you sell in your business, but it’s even more important to know what your USP is for your business as a whole. You may have noticed that once you start selling low-cost, self-selling offers through Facebook ads, you suddenly get what seems like hundreds of ads a day for other offers like this. But that’s because you get the satisfaction of one click when you see what other business owners are doing with your ads. When it comes to online businesses, sometimes it feels like you’re drowning in an ocean of similarity. The other part of the equation is that it seems like a lot of people are doing the same thing you are because sometimes you surround yourself with them. You may feel like it’s impossible to be competitive or stand out in your field. Because if you don’t know what sets you apart from others. You will NOT stand out. This is something that will let clients know that you are the obvious choice to help them solve their problem or meet their needs.
