New Marketing Mandate – In a world with far fewer channels

In a world with far fewer channels and far fewer choices for consumers than today, marketers can run campaigns and seek to attract attention with experiences broken down by a fewtouchpoints. “But of course, thanks to the Internet, consumers today have more choice and therefore more power over where they spend their time. Think about it: would your marketing be easier, and would your business benefit, if your customers and prospects spent literally hours of their lives with your brand every week or every month? Wouldn’t it be more effective to meet people you know in real life? Showrunners turn URL connections into something akin to an IRL relationship. Marketing showrunners seek to promote the artistry and creativity of marketers who create shows to build a loyal and passionate audience. This was an era based on mass marketing, where the mission of marketing was simple: get people’s attention. However, we can increase our chances of gaining credibility and influence over time and initiate actions that will benefit our business if we can avoid this crazy attention-grabbing cycle. As marketers today, we are often so obsessed with reach and acquisition that we forget the truth: Marketing success is not measured by the number of people reached, but by the number left behind. Just as software companies must focus on attracting customers, marketers must always focus on attracting attention. The show is made to get attention. Maybe it’s a little ironic that I still prefer to read a blog post or a transcript because I have a hard time spending 20 or 30 minutes on a podcast or show because I probably create the content myself. But nevertheless, I’m here. I’m listening to you. So what’s the best way to keep your attention? As with anything as fundamental as this new job in marketing, there is no ONE right way.
