Media Users Pass – In October 2020 the number of people

In October 2020, the number of people using social networks around the world rose to 4.14 billion, and this quarter was the first time that 4 billion people were using social networks. Between July and September more than 180 million people used the media, compared to the previous three months, representing an average increase of nearly 2 million users per day. Kepios analysis shows that more than 450 million people have used social media in the past twelve months, representing more than 12 percent annual growth. Currently, more than 4 billion people around the world use social networking sites every month and on average almost 2 million new users join every day. This means that since last year an average of more than 14 people per second have been using social networks, which is even more than in the previous quarter. The addition of 36 million new users between July and September increases Snapchat’s global advertising audience to 433 million, which is 20% more than the company’s tools introduced last year at this time. Just three months ago we announced that the penetration into social networks exceeded the mark of 50%, but the latest data show that now this figure has increased to almost 53%. Total spending on online search engine advertising fell by 9% compared to the same period last year, while spending on media advertising fell by 13%. The media take up more than a third of our online time, and people now spend on average almost 2½ hours a day on social platforms. Although they represent the largest group of media users in their personal lives, people aged 25-34 are less likely to use media to communicate with their peers than people aged 16-24. The world also spends more time on social networks, with typical users now spending about 15% of their agreed lives on social platforms. The company’s unique tools show that Instagram’s advertising audience has grown by more than 76 million people in the last three months and reached 1.16 billion people in early October 2020. The total number of clicks on social media advertising in the second quarter of this year was 33% higher than in the second quarter of 2019, while the number of clicks on review advertising increased by 28%. Changing search behavior: more than two-thirds of the world’s Internet users are already going beyond search engines when searching for goods and services to buy, but we expect that language search, image search and social network search will play an even more important role in the coming months.
