Facebook this week announced a new advertising campaign for the latest movie in the Fast and Furious franchise, including new backgrounds and chat effects, as well as an interactive experience with viewing and behind-the-scenes video clips. Movie Mate, a separate third-party offering, is integrated into Messenger and adds an extra element to the “Watch Together” mode, which allows users to watch live video content with their Messenger contacts. Either way, it’s an interesting experience. If you want to try out the new features of F9 Messenger, go to the Fast & Furious Facebook page and click on the Messenger icon to start a chat. Viewers can see exclusive content and additional footage, and as mentioned, Facebook has also added new 360-degree backgrounds and chat themes, which are also available on Instagram. With this new process, when users start a new chat on the Fast & Furious Facebook page, they will be called their fandom level “so that their experience is personalized according to their level of expertise.” This could be a new advertising opportunity, and while it’s a fairly expensive tool that will likely only be available to major movie studios and the like, it could be an extension of Facebook’s advertising offerings and provide more opportunities for awareness and networking. Chat themes are a new offering after Facebook introduced “Star Wars” and “Selena: The Series” themes last month, providing a new way to communicate with fans. The Movie-Mate integration also offers more interactive features for watching videos together, and as more and more users want to watch videos together, it could also be a valuable promotional tool. Movie-Mate is available for all movies in the Fast and Furious saga. Look for listings from companies in your area.
